Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper lauded the impact of Alex Mighten after his cameo during Saturday’s win over Hull.
The academy graduate came on for Jordi Osei-Tutu just prior to half-time, with the on-loan Arsenal man picking up a knock.
Mighten won Forest a penalty early in the second half, although it did look slightly harsh on Hull based on the replay.
The teenager picked up an injury of his own in the challenge though and was forced off himself.
It sees Steve Cooper pick another injury up to an important squad player and he will hope Mighten’s injury isn’t serious.
After the game, the head coach raved about the youngster’s contribution.
He told Nottinghamshire Live: “The response from the players in the second half was fantastic.
“Alex did brilliantly to win the penalty. That’s what we asked him to do – face people up and get in the box. Unfortunately, as a consequence, he had to come off injured. You have to stand up to be counted and we did.”
Mighten has been used sparingly under Cooper. He’s typically operated as a substitute and he would have relished the chance to play a longer role during Saturday’s game.
Now, he will hope to get back to full fitness as quickly as he possibly can.
Impact: Mighten has role to play for Forest
Mighten has made 20 appearances for the Reds during 2021/22, although he’s started just four times.
The youngster can play on either flank and his raw pace is a useful asset from the bench.
A real challenge is emerging for Mighten. Under Cooper, he will get plenty of chances to play but it’s down to him to show that he’s capable of starting regularly.

His positive moments in games are all a bit sporadic at the moment and he must start to find some consistency.
His 16-minute cameo was eye-catching at the weekend and he should take some real confidence from this showing.
