Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun on loan.

Last night, the youngster was in action as the Gunners thrashed Sunderland 5-1 in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Eddie Nketiah scored a hat-trick, with Nicolas Pepe and Charlie Patino also getting among the goals.

For Balogun, it proved a frustrating night and perhaps highlighted that a loan move in January is desperately required.

The 20-year-old has the fewest touches of any outfield player with 29 and fired three of his shots at goal off target.

Balogun also made two could and picked up a yellow card for his second one.

The youngster was hooked in the 55th minute and quite frankly, the performance showcased that he needs to get out on loan.

In the under-23s he has shone this season, scoring 15 goals in just 13 outings. Last night, when it came to playing against men, however, he looked somewhat off the pace.

That doesn’t mean he’s a bad player, but it’s easy to see why he’s been linked with a move to Forest.

Plenty of Championship clubs would relish the chance to sign him, with Steve Cooper firmly in the mix for his signature.
