Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson is being courted by Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window.
A report from The Athletic, however, suggests that such links don’t make a great deal of sense.
Yesterday, it was claimed that Tottenham have entered the race alongside Everton, Newcastle, West Ham and Brentford.
On the same day, some details over which positions Antonio Conte will priorities also emerged.
The Athletic claims that Conte wants a right wing-back and a striker capable of backing up Harry Kane.
With that in mind, it doesn’t really seem as though Forest will be receiving any immediate phone calls from Spurs regarding Johnson.
Of all the interested parties, Tottenham and West Ham perhaps provide the biggest worry.
Both clubs have played in Europe this season, with the Hammers reaching the knockout stages.
It was only a couple of years ago that Tottenham graced a Champions League final and under Conte, things should be on the up.
In terms of the other interested parties, Everton are struggling, whilst Newcastle could be playing in the same league as Forest next season!
With that in mind, Tottenham’s desire to add two players in positions that Johnson doesn’t play in looks to be good news.
Forest need to keep Johnson beyond January
The 20-year-old is set to become a future star.
With that in mind, Forest have to get him to sign a new deal and at least preserve his valuation for a little while longer.

Tottenham’s interest is concerning. However, it does seem unlikely that they will pounce mid-season and would probably rather swoop in the summer.
The reports from a reputable source in The Athletic make an immediate move seen unlikely.
For now, that is good news for Forest and the end of January can’t come soon enough!
