Nottingham Forest were beaten for the first time in 10 matches as Middlesbrough ran out 2-0 winners at the Riverside Stadium.
One man who did get some praise was Xande Silva who made a surprise cameo off the bench.
The Portuguese performer had only played for 23 minutes prior to this outing. They came in the reverse fixture against Boro at the City Ground.
Forest were second best for large parts of the Boxing Day clash but Silva did look pretty lively when he was introduced.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Forest. On this evidence though, perhaps the Reds could do with hanging onto him for now.
Silva was introduced wide on the left and put some pressure on Middlesbrough.
He huffed and puffed, having Forest’s best chance for a goal, striking the post after a lovely passage of play from the Reds.
Silva has been linked with a permanent move back to Aris where he spent last season on loan.
Injuries to Joe Lolley and Alex Mighten have made the situation pretty desperate for Forest though and they’re perhaps one injury away from disaster.
What have Forest fans said about Silva?
It’s fair to say they were pleasantly surprised.
He has seemed like a pretty weird signing but he at least showcased some class when he came on this afternoon.
Of course, time could have already run out for Silva but all he can do is perform when asked to do so by his boss.
Plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to discuss his cameo in the North East and he could be in contention again on Thursday night.
