Former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke is set to join Ben Brereton Diaz at Blackburn Rovers, according to Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has endured a torrid time of things at Sheffield United and his Bramall Lane stay looks to be coming to an end.

Burke’s career hasn’t really kicked on since leaving Forest. The Reds recouped £13 million for his services from RB Leipzig back in 2016.

His time in Germany wasn’t particularly successful. He departed just a year later to West Brom, before heading out on loan to Celtic and then Alaves.

The Blades snapped him up in September 2020 and he’s scored just twice and registered one assist in 35 outings for the club.

Burke is way down the pecking order at Bramall Lane and he’s now in advanced talks to join up with Brereton Diaz.

The former Forest striker netted his 20th goal of the season over the Christmas period and he’s really come of age during 2021/22.

Tony Mowbray’s team sit second in the Championship and Burke will be added to try and get the club over the line.

Burke looks set to sign in a permanent deal having fallen out of favour in South Yorkshire and he’ll hope to revive his career.

Fall from grace: Forest got superb deal for Burke

Clearly, Blackburn are a club that is firmly on the up. They sit in second place in the Championship and have a genuine crack at promotion this season.

It does offer a sign of how far Burke’s career has fallen. After leaving Forest for Leipzig he was tipped for great things but instead he’s journeyed from club to club seeking happiness.

Fawaz Al-Hasawi merely saw pound signs with regards to Burke. In hindsight, he’d have been better off staying at Forest and honing his skills for at least another 12 months.

Getting £13 million was decent business ultimately. Forest fans will now be curious as to whether he can blossom at Blackburn; just as Brereton has.
