Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Steve Cook from Bournemouth. The centre-back becomes Steve Cooper’s first permanent signing since joining the club.
Forest have held a desire to strengthen their defensive ranks. Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Tobias Figueiredo have all featured quite frequently under Cooper.
Having another option is no bad thing though and it should allow the head coach to use his trusted 3-4-3 system more often than not.
Loic Mbe Soh and Rodrigo Ely have both struggled with injuries. As a result, Forest have moved quickly to add a reliable defensive signing to the current squad.
Cook has spent the last 10 years at Bournemouth. He had fallen down the pecking order this season but otherwise, he’s been one of the first names on the team sheet.
The 30-year-old served the Cherries with distinction. He made 387 appearances for the club, winning two promotions and scoring 21 goals.
Cook leaves with the best wishes of the supporters and he now embarks on a new chapter. Forest have handed the new signing the number 27 shirt for the 2021/22 campaign.
The centre-back will go straight into the Forest squad for Sunday’s game against Arsenal in the FA Cup at the City Ground.
What have Forest fans said about Cook arriving?
It’s fair to say the vast majority are pretty excited. Cook comes with a wealth of experience, but at a nice age to still make an impact on the team.

McKenna and Worrall are pretty immovable given their form. Having Cook between them, however, will allow Cooper to utilise a preferred way of playing.
In the eyes of Forest fans that is a bonus and several have reacted to the latest piece of business on Twitter. Here is what they had to say as Cook becomes signing number two of the January transfer window.
