Kevin Kilbane has praised Richie Laryea on Canadian TV channel TSN Soccer following his Nottingham Forest transfer. The international full-back checked in last night to end days of speculation regarding his next move.
The 27-year-old looks like an exciting addition. He is a regular for Canada and was one of the most highly-rated defenders in the MLS for Toronto last season.
Laryea can operate on either side of the defensive unit. He spent a lot of his time playing at right-back last season; although he also played left-back and in central midfield.
On the face of things, it looks like a useful addition to the Forest ranks. Djed Spence and Max Lowe are only on loan and this is seemingly a sound investment.
Kilbane certainly thinks so. He was quizzed on Laryea following his move to Forest and believes it’s one that suits all parties.
He told TSN Soccer: “It’s a great move, it’s a huge club. It will be a lot of games for him to take on. It’s a great quality league and he’s going to one of the best clubs in English football. He will go to every Canada camp as a better player and I think he will grow.
“I commend him. He could have seen his career out at Toronto but instead, he’s taken the bold step of moving to the Championship and to Nottingham Forest.”
Exciting: Laryea could star at Forest
The talented performer has pace in abundance and loves getting stuck into tackles. Those attributes should see him a favourite in the eyes of supporters and they’ll look forward to seeing him in action.
He made 83 appearances for Toronto and was a very popular member of the squad. He also scored nine goals and claimed 12 assists during his time at the club.
Laryea has played 22 times for Canada. He will hope to star at Forest and continue getting himself into the team on the international stage.
Kilbane’s comments are certainly interesting. It would seem as though he fancies the player to do well at the City Ground following his move.
The proof will be in the pudding. Laryea will ultimately be judged on performances and Forest fans will look forward to seeing him action on Trentside.
