Jobi McAnuff has told the Sky Sports EFL Podcast that Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson will definitely play in the Premier League at some point.

The former Football League stalwart was discussing the 20-year-old on this week’s episode. It came after Johnson’s brilliance helped Forest knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup.

Lewis Grabban scored the only goal of the game seven minutes from time. He tapped home after some good work from Johnson and Ryan Yates down the right-hand side.

McAnuff raved about the forward and made a prediction on the Forest man’s future.

He told the Sky Sports EFL Podcast: “He is going to play in the Premier League at some point. There’s absolutely no doubt about that. I think for him, he needs the right move for his development. We’ve seen before players make the jump too soon and they don’t quite get the games they need to continue their progression.

“There will be interest, there were occasions yesterday against Premier League opposition where he showed what he’s about…pace, desire and ability to take people on.

“Forest are playing really well and I think they’ll be really keen to try and keep hold of him and revisit things in the summer.”

Talented: McAnuff is right and Forest face a fight over Johnson

Johnson is a future star and he will ultimately play in the top-flight with or without Forest. This season he’s come of age and showcased match-winning qualities that the Reds have lacked in previous years.

The worrying thing regarding Johnson is the contract situation surrounding him. In the summer, Johnson will have just a single year remaining on his deal and that needs addressing.

Reports have claimed that Forest value him at around £20 million and that’s at least a positive if it does come to clubs bidding for him.

Johnson’s performance against Arsenal was mesmerising at times. As a result, Forest have to reconsider any plans to sell him this month and keep him at the City Ground as long as possible.
