Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal at the City Ground on Sunday. World-renowned actor Idris Elba was present at the game and Reds supporters have been raving about the reason he was there.
Of course, Elba was casting an eye on his beloved Arsenal. That wasn’t the only reason for his trip to Nottingham though, with the Gunners using the game as a chance to use their platform.
Arsenal partnered up with Adidas to make a stand against an alarming rise in crime. They wore an all-white kit as part of the No More Red programme which aims to reduce knife crime.
The kit was worn as a one-off. It is thought that special jersey will continue the impressive work done by Arsenal in the Community, aimed at keeping youngsters safe, creating environments for them to play football.
Elba was interviewed by ITV before the game. He was snapped wearing one of the Arsenal shirts and also thanked Forest for helping them showcase the initiative.
Since the defeat for Arsenal, the star of Luther and The Wire has taken to Twitter. He has called Sunday a special day and paid tribute to Forest.
What have Forest fans said to Elba?
Plenty of supporters have thrown their weight behind this campaign too. Elba did make a comical quip about having to beat Forest prior to the game – but the less said about that the better, eh Idris!
The work done at the City Ground with the community is also impressive. As a result, it’s no surprise to see Forest fans get in touch with Elba about his latest initiative.
The 49-year-old was photographed alongside Ian Wright and after his Tweet, supporters have congratulated Elba on Twitter.
