Nottingham Forest could be about to finally wave goodbye to Gaetan Bong. According to Kan Football Club, Montreal FC are preparing a swoop for the Reds defender.

For Bong, Forest has been a nightmare. He signed during the January window of 2020 and has struggled massively to make an impact.

He has been called upon with options sparse but it’s fair to say he’s not really covered himself in glory at the City Ground.

The 33-year-old is out of contract during the summer. If Forest could offload him now though it would be a real boost.

Bong has been on the bench quite frequently under Steve Cooper. That has been more of a case of needs must, with options in short supply at full-back.

Bong was on the bench for Forest yesterday but his days appear to be numbered. Even if he doesn’t leave this month he will almost certainly depart at the end of this contract.

The former Brighton promotion winner has made 20 appearances for Forest. He has often had an error in his locker and Forest supporters will be delighted to see him offloaded.

If Forest could do that this month, it would certainly go down in the eyes of Reds supporters.

Surplus: Bong departure can’t come soon enough for Forest

A departure for the experienced defender can’t come soon enough for Forest. His performances have been nothing short of dreadful and the Reds must strive for better.

Max Lowe is edging towards a return to fitness and Forest recently signed Richie Laryea from Toronto FC.

Bong has failed to make his mark on the Forest team during his two years at the club. He has never been a regular in the team and as a result, his form has stuttered.

Under Cooper, Forest will hope to challenge for promotion in the next few years. Therefore, players like Bong have to be deemed surplus and the Reds must go in search of better players.
