Back in September 2020, Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Aston Villa winger Anwar El-Ghazi. The club didn’t get a deal over the line and now the player has earned himself a Premier League move.

The 26-year-old was on the bench for Everton on Saturday. He has moved to Goodison Park on loan until the end of the campaign and was a substitute as the Toffees lost 2-1 to Norwich City.

Intriguingly, the manager who signed El Ghazi, Rafa Benitez, was sacked afterwards. Now, he faces the prospect of having to prove himself to a manager who didn’t sign him.

Forest were linked with the signing of El Ghazi previously. He was also linked with Olympiacos but neither club opted to make a move and he stayed at Villa.

The 26-year-old has made 12 appearances this season. Only four of those have come as starting berths in the Premier League and Steven Gerrard hasn’t fancied him.

Now, he will hope to make his mark at Everton. The Goodison Park outfit are firmly in a relegation battle and must get their managerial appointment spot on.

El Ghazi will be hoping to get going quickly at Everton. He is facing a fight to save his time in England and he’ll hope to play plenty of football.

Quality: El Ghazi would have been ideal for Forest

The Reds signed Anthony Knockaert last season and that deal didn’t really work out. Chris Hughton might have been better adding El Ghazi to his ranks as he sought better options in attack.

A two-time Holland international, the left-winger would have been useful in the Championship. He made 31 appearances for Villa in the division, scoring five goals and claiming six assists.

Forest have missed the boat when it comes to the Dutchman now. They will watch with intrigue his time at Everton and some fan might wonder what might have been.
