Nottingham Forest loan star Philip Zinckernagel has heaped praise on Djed Spence after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Millwall.

The Reds won with an injury-time Lewis Grabban goal in the capital to go within five points of the play-off places in the Championship.

It proved a hard-fought win for the Reds. Ultimately the team’s fitness showed as the game wore on and Grabban made it 12 for the season.

For Spence, it’s proved quite the campaign. He arrived on loan from Middlesbrough in August having been frozen out by Neil Warnock.

He’s made 20 appearances for Forest, scoring one goal and supporters have fallen in love with the loan player.

Zinckernagel is also enjoying playing with the 21-year-old this season.

He told The Athletic: “Djed is impressive and he is so fast. He is a good dribbler of the ball and has a lot of potential. It’s just a matter of time before he plays in the Premier League.

“We will enjoy him as long as we have him. He can take his career far. If Forest go up, I am sure he will want to stay. Everyone will want to.”

Quality: Spence is best Forest loanee for years

It has to be said that Spence and Zinckernagel have both been quality loan additions for Forest. Both have represented a refreshing change to the disappointing additions that have been made in recent seasons.

Spence has been a revelation. He has grown as a player at Forest and made a complete mockery of Middlesbrough’s decision to loan him out.

The Reds are going to struggle to keep him. It was claimed at the weekend that Arsenal, Roma and Inter are all willing to pay £10 million to secure his services.

All Forest can do is enjoy him whilst they have him. Spence will move on next season unless the Reds can reach the Premier League, in which case the landscape could change.
