Nottingham Forest Under-18s will be looking to do something tonight that they’ve not managed for four years.

Warren Joyce’s men will travel to Peterborough United in the FA Youth Cup.

If they are victorious at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, they will reach round five for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign.

On that occasion, they were halted by Blackburn Rovers who ran out 5-1 winners at Ewood Park. A certain Brennan Johnson scored the consolation goal for the young Reds.

How have Forest gone so far in the FA Youth Cup?

The Reds don’t enter the competition until the third round so have played just once this season.


It proved a professional performance from the young guns in front of a decent-sized City Ground crowd last time out.

Goals from Dale Taylor, Detlef Esapa Osong and Jack Nadin ensured a 3-1 win over Bristol City.

That set up a tie with Peterborough away from home.

Posh are in awful form at the moment. They’ve lost their last four games in the league and sit rock bottom of the Professional Development League.

They did enjoy a stunning win in round three though. They took advantage of Derby promoting lots of youngsters to their senior ranks and won 1-0 against the outfit with a category one status.

As a result, Forest must be wary tonight.

Joyce’s team have picked up in recent weeks. They drew 1-1 with Sunderland at the weekend and recently thrashed Wolves 3-0.

Forest have climbed off the bottom in recent weeks. The 2021/22 campaign has proved a tough baptism of fire for the Reds during their maiden campaign playing in the under-18 Premier League.

Should Forest progress tonight, they will be on the road once again in the fifth round.

The Reds will travel to face either Cambridge or Leeds who meet tomorrow night in the competition.

Forest might fancy another crack at Leeds. They played each other back in August on the opening day of the season, with the Reds running out 1-0 winners.
