Charlton Athletic have made a transfer decision that could help Nottingham Forest complete a deal for Blackpool trickster Josh Bowler.

According to London News Online, the Addicks are prepared to listen to offers for winger Josh Kirk before the end of the month.

The 24-year-old was only signed in the summer from Crewe, costing the League One outfit £500,000.

His move to the capital hasn’t gone to plan though. He’s made just five starts for Charlton and is now deemed surplus to requirements.

This could be good news for Forest though. Blackpool, it is claimed, have identified Kirk as a replacement for Bowler should he leave.

Blackpool are hoping to get their ducks in a row first. They’d love to keep hold of Bowler but if they do get Kirk over the line it could be an indication they think their hopes are fading.

Forest are keen to sign one more player before the window closes. Jed Wallace has been linked, with Bowler likely to be a contingency option.

The Reds have found themselves short of options in recent weeks. Brennan Johnson and Philip Zinckernagel are the main two options, but Alex Mighten and Joe Lolley are both injured.

Exciting: Charlton decision can help Forest sign Bowler

This could be good news for Forest. With Millwall playing hardball over Wallace, it’s important to have contingency plans in place.

Bowler is certainly one of those and Kirk heading to Bloomfield Road would represent a real sign of progress in Forest’s pursuit of a deal.

The 22-year-old has come of age during 2021/22. He only has two goals and three assists but his energetic performances have caught the eye.

Charlton’s latest call on the transfer front might eventually lead to Bowler wearing a Forest shirt very soon.
