Nottingham Forest hopes of landing Blackpool winger Josh Bowler are fading quickly. According to Lancashire Live, another bid from the Reds has been rejected and only stupid money will be considered this month.

The Reds had hoped to snare the 22-year-old to the City Ground. Head coach Steve Cooper is eyeing up at least one more signing before the transfer window closes, with an attacker likely to be the order of the day.

Bowler was in fine form when Blackpool lost against Forest earlier in the season. He is tricky, keeps the ball well and simply loves to take players on when in possession of the ball.

The youngster only arrived at Bloomfield Road during the summer. He had been released by Everton having failed to make a first-team appearance for the club.

It was on loan at Hull during the 2019/20 campaign where he made a name for himself. He caught the eye with a number of decent performances, albeit he didn’t get the goals and assists he perhaps warranted.

Pool boss Neil Critchley discussed Bowler after Saturday’s game against Millwall. It seems like bad news for Forest who may have to focus their attention elsewhere.

He told Lancs Live: “What he does is carries the ball, he can get you from the halfway line to the penalty box in a few seconds so even when you’re defending you know that if you can turn the ball over, you’ve got a player who can hurt teams. When Josh does that, he’s really effective.”

Target: Forest face race against time and Bowler hopes look slim

With each passing day, it seems likely that Forest will sign Bowler during the January transfer window. He is playing week in and week out at Blackpool and ultimately they don’t want to sell.

The Tangerines are enjoying a stunning maiden campaign back in the Championship. As a result, they’ll want to ensure they finish the season strongly and they have a better chance of doing that if they keep Bowler.

Forest should have some other irons in the fire and perhaps all is not lost when it comes to adding an attacker to the ranks this month.
