Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo is set to join Vitoria on loan until the end of the season, according to A Bola.
The Reds defender has fallen down the pecking order in recent months, with Steve Cooper preferring other options.
Steve Cook has been added to the ranks this month and that has further restricted Figueiredo’s chances of regular football.
Figueiredo arrived at Forest in 2018. He initially joined on loan and made such an impression that Aitor Karanka signed him permanently.
He hasn’t proved a bad addition to the Forest ranks. During his four years on Trentside, he’s made 113 appearances, scoring three goals.
Now, first-team football is in his sights. He looks set to join Vitoria on loan, with his contract due to expire during the summer.
If he does leave now, it’s likely to signal the end for Figueiredo at Forest. Cooper has Cook, Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall and Loic Mbe Soh all in the ranks.
Interestingly, in joining Vitoria, the Forest man will link up with a former City Ground fan favourite. Tiago Silva moved to the Portuguese club in the summer and has made 19 appearances.
The Portuguese top-flight outfit currently sit sixth in the league table and are in contention for a Europa League place.
Servant: Forest are right to offload Figueiredo
During the 2021/22 campaign, Figueiredo has done a job. When Cooper first arrived he looked tailor-made to operate in the middle of a three-man defence.
Ultimately, Cook is an upgrade on the 27-year-old and Cooper clearly wanted his own man propping up his defensive unit.
- WANTED: West Ham eye Forest man
Figueiredo needs to play football and he won’t fancy kicking his heels on the fringes for the remaining games this season.
This move not only allows him the chance to go out and play; but if he performs well, he could earn a permanent deal at the club.
