Former Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton Diaz is being lined up for a shock move to Barcelona. The Blackburn man will become the number one target should a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go south.
Arsenal’s captain is thought to be nearing a move to the Nou Camp. Despite that, the Catalan giants are busy making contingency plans in the event of a collapse.
Brereton-Diaz is currently on international duty with Chile. Since making his debut for his adopted country he’s gone from strength to strength and is now a wanted man.
The talented performer signed for Rovers in 2019. He took some time to get going at Ewood Park but this season he’s really come of age, scoring 20 goals so far.
It’s been a remarkable transformation for a player who often flattered to deceive at Forest. He scored nine times in 57 appearances for the Reds and was sold for £7 million.
Now, the player is a target for Barcelona. Given his goal-haul this season he’s likely to be attracting vast interest and his contract is up during the summer.
Blackburn have an option to extend his deal by a further year. The level of interest will be a worry but they’ll fancy getting a decent deal for their prized asset.
Transformation: Brereton Diaz showing Forest what they’re missing
Make no bones about it, the Reds were right to offload Brereton Diaz. His contract was running down and £7 million proved to be decent cash for the youngster.
Aubameyang does look likely to sign for Barcelona now. As a result, the former Reds youngster might have to wait for his big move to a top European club.

- CLOSE: Forest deal edges nearer
On current form, you wouldn’t bet against Xavi returning to sign Brereton Diaz during the summer. If he doesn’t a Premier League move could be on the cards.
As for Forest, they will hope a sizeable sell-on clause was inserted in the transfer.
