Nottingham Forest academy graduate Anel Ahmedhodzic made a move to Bordeaux from Malmo yesterday. Following his arrival in France, the central defender received a message of congratulations from Brennan Johnson.

Ahmedhodzic’s future has been a bit of a saga. He was linked with Chelsea and Manchester United last March but neither club decided to move in the end; leading to a move to Ligue 1 instead.

The youngster left Forest in 2019, citing that he needed to return to his native country. At Malmo his career has undergone a real transformation and he’s become one of Europe’s hottest properties.

Now 22, Ahmedhodzic clearly feels that he’s outgrown the Swedish top-flight. Moving to France hands him the chance to shine in a league that should test him considerably more.

Bordeaux are currently in a relegation battle. They will be hoping that the man-mountain defender can go into the club and help them secure their status as a top-flight club.

The former Forest man leaves Malmo having made 82 appearances. His absence will be sorely felt in Sweden and they will now hope to bolster their own squad in the near future.

What has Johnson said to former Forest starlet Ahmedhodzic?

The former Reds man is a couple of years older than Johnson but their paths will have crossed playing in the youth ranks at Forest.

The pair will have trained and played together, with Johnson now starring in the first-team at the City Ground.

Forest’s star man has sent Ahmedhodzic a heartfelt best wishes message following his arrival in France.

Johnson didn’t get a move to the Premier League during January. He was linked with Brentford, although the Reds’ hierarchy stood firm.

The 20-year-old has been trusted to feature in every game this season. Ahmedhodzic played just six minutes of first-team football at Forest and had he been given more exposure he might have settled in England.

Forest will never know and it’ll be intriguing to see how Ahmedhodzic does in France.
