Nottingham Forest were keen on signing Derby County talent Festy Ebosele in January – but he is now set to agree a move to Udinese.
That’s according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims that Ebosele is carrying out a medical to join Udinese.
Out of contract this summer, Ebosele is signing a pre-contract agreement to join Udinese for minimal compensation at the end of the season.
Udinese’s links to Watford may just open up the possibility of a future move to Vicarage Road too.
This is a major blow for Derby, who have seen Ebosele show real promise this season, but it’s also something of a disappointment for Forest.
Either way, Forest’s chase of the Derby youngster proved fruitless during the January transfer window.
Forest may have held out some hope of securing Ebosele when his contract comes to an end, but that won’t be happening.
Ebosele, 19, has shown huge potential for Derby whilst playing all the way up the right flank from right back to right wing.
The Irish talent could become a star in the future, and Forest seemingly eyed him up as a long-term replacement for Djed Spence.
Sadly, loanee Spence is unlikely to stay at Forest beyond this season, with Middlesbrough looking likely to sell to a Premier League club.
Richie Laryea has arrived to boost that area of the pitch, but Forest are still likely to target somebody in Spence’s place.
Ebosele could have been that man, especially as a wing back if Steve Cooper chooses to play that way, but Udinese seem to have succeeded where Forest failed.
