Alan Shearer raved about Nottingham Forest after their devastating 4-1 win over FA Cup holders Leicester City at the City Ground.

The Reds produced an unbelievable performance to send Brendan Rodgers’ full-strength Foxes outfit out of the competition they won last season.

Goals from Philip Zinckernagel, Brennan Johnson, Joe Worrall and Djed Spence saw Forest set up a home clash with Huddersfield in the last 16.

Steve Cooper’s team coped better with the demands of an East Midlands derby. They were brilliant from the first whistle and blew Forest away in the first half with three goals.

Shearer was in the studio as part of the live coverage on BBC Sport and he was seriously impressed with the Reds and Cooper.

He said: “As soon as Forest got the first goal there was only one team going to win it.

“There were so many impressive performances, even from the substitutes who came on. Well done, Forest. Well done, Steve Cooper. It feels like they have got something good going on.

“The atmosphere he has generated at Forest is there for everyone to see – it was magnificent all afternoon.”

Shearer is right; Forest is a special place to be

For years, the Reds have become accustomed to being a laughing stock. Now, the club has seemingly hit the jackpot with the appointment of Cooper.

Forest now have a go in every single game and they’ve gone from the bottom of the Championship to battling for a top-six berth in no time at all.

Leicester were the second Premier League scalp Forest have claimed this season. Arsenal were beaten in the third round with Lewis Grabban scoring the winner.

Forest now have a home game for a place in the quarter-final and supporters might just be dreaming of a place in the last eight.
