Through gritted teeth, Leicester City hero Wes Morgan has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest star Djed Spence after Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Foxes.

The 21-year-old was a standout performer for the Reds. He scored his second Forest goal and the fourth for the Reds during the memorable victory.

Spence has been remarkable during his time at Forest. He’s been a mainstay in the team and he’s proving his worth to parent club Middlesbrough.

It’s fair to say that the chances of Forest keeping him look pretty slim. Arsenal, Tottenham, Inter and Roma are all monitoring the talented right-back.

Morgan seems to be more invested in Leicester these days. He referred to the Foxes as ‘we’ during the live BBC Sport coverage and that upset some Forest fans.

The Premier League title winner did speak fondly of Spence though and offered some praise following the contest.

He told BBC Sport: “Spence was outstanding all afternoon and he seemed full of confidence. He probably got what he deserved today with the goal. He’s a constant threat and kept his cool right until the end.”

Challenge: Forest have a conundrum regarding Spence

It doesn’t seem unfair to say that Spence will outgrow Forest. Even if the club isn’t promoted this season, it seems certain that the right-back will be playing in the Premier League next season.

The challenge facing Forest is to simply ensure they utilise the market once again to sign an adequate replacement.

Richie Laryea arrived from Toronto FC and perhaps he is the man who will be identified as the long-term alternative when Spence inevitably moves on.

This season the Reds have utilised the loan market well. Philip Zinckernagel, Max Lowe, James Garner, Keinan Davis and Spence have all had an impact.

That is at least a refreshing change and under Cooper, Forest fans will feel they’re less likely to get stung in the market in the future.
