Reid was impressed with Larsson following his brace on Monday and he praised one aspect of his game that is really coming on.

The 20-year-old scored two brilliant goals with one, in particular, coming courtesy of a thunderbolt of a strike.

Reid is delighted with that side of his game and has urged him to use it on a more frequent basis.

He told the club’s official media team: “We told them at half-time just to pull the trigger.

“You look at Julian Larsson…the way that he strikes a football is fantastic and in the first half he was just a little bit hesitant to take the shot on.

“We told him ahead of the second half and he comes up with two goals that are absolutely magic.”

Stardom: Larsson is on the right path at Forest

It’s certainly refreshing that the Reds have some seriously talented strikers coming through the ranks.

Lewis Grabban is 34 and at some point, the club will need to identify a new heir to the talisman’s throne.

Nobody knows at this stage who that man will be but Larsson would dearly love a chance to prove himself.

The youngster had made a squad under Steve Cooper; although he didn’t get on the bench and instead was with the group for experience purposes.

Larsson looks on course to sign a new contract with Forest. If the club can get him tied down it would offer a firm indication of their future plans regarding the Swedish starlet.
