Nottingham Forest will continue their pursuit of Jed Wallace during the summer once his contract expires, according to The Sun.

The Reds tried desperately to land the 27-year-old during the January transfer window but Millwall stood firm on their valuation.

Now, Gary Rowett looks set to lose his best player on a free transfer during the summer and Steve Cooper is desperate to snap him up.

The player made his comeback from injury in last night’s 3-0 defeat against Fulham. He was introduced as a second-half substitute having missed the previous five games.

Plenty of reports did the rounds in January. Some suggested a medical for Wallace at Forest was agreed, whilst others claimed Leeds, Besiktas and Middlesbrough were also keen.

Wallace has been a sound addition to the ranks at the New Den over the years. He has made 245 appearances, scoring 41 goals and claiming 43 assists.

It’s a travesty on Millwall’s part that they’ve not done more to either sell him or ensure they get a bit of money in return for his services.

Quality: Cooper right to want Wallace at Forest

It’s great news for the Forest fan base that the Reds head coach has his heart set on a move for Wallace during the summer.

He is a proven Championship performer and the fact he can play in a number of positions makes him tailor-made for Cooper’s setup.

Wallace on a free transfer would be a reasonable coup but Forest will face competition from other clubs for his signature.

As a result, they need to act quickly and kick-start their summer transfer business with a bang.
