Steve Cooper has lauded Alex Mighten after the Nottingham Forest winger stepped off the bench during his return to the matchday squad against Stoke.

The talented youngster has missed the last couple of months with a knee injury sustained during the 2-1 win over Hull City in December.

Mighten was introduced shortly before Brice Samba was sent off for Forest, with the Reds eventually drawing 2-2 with the Potters.

Forest have been forced to do without Mighten since he suffered his injury problem and having him available for the squad will be ideal.

The Reds boss was certainly pleased to be able to call upon Mighten once more and was quizzed on him afterwards.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “It was good to have him back. He had a little impact, having a bit of contribution into where Jimmy won the free-kick for the goal.

“We really believe in Alex. He’s not ready to start games. We have to give him some more training. But it’s good he’s back in the mix.”

Mighten hasn’t really got going so far this season. He’s registered just one goal contribution in 19 outings and Cooper will hope for more.

Options: Mighten gives Cooper something from the Forest bench

The Reds will welcome having Mighten back. His pace and directness do make him a useful option to have from the bench.

Xande Silva has stepped up in his absence but perhaps Mighten is a player who Forest feel can be a future star at the City Ground.

Mighten is clearly rated by the Forest head coach and he could be exactly the sort of boss to get the best out of the teenager.

The challenge for Mighten is to gain some consistency. All too often he’s been a one in six player and he’ll hope to kick on.
