Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper is on the radar of Southampton, according to respected journalist Pete O’Rourke. It is thought that several Premier League clubs will be monitoring Cooper who only arrived at the City Ground in September.

The turnaround under the head coach has been remarkable. Only Fulham have won more points than Forest in the 24 league games that Cooper has overseen; with the Reds now on the cusp of the play-off places.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl could depart St Mary’s when his contract expires. He will have two years on that deal in the summer but contingency plans are being prepared by the club.

O’Rourke typically has a finger on the pulse of anything transfer related. He believes that Cooper is set to become a wanted man.

The journalist told Give me Sport: “I think Steve Cooper is going to be on the radar of several clubs in the Premier League with the work that he’s doing at Nottingham Forest.

“He also did a great job at Swansea and he’s a top-quality young manager.”

Cooper has a 56% win ratio during his time at Forest. His team have won 14 of their 25 matches, with just four defeats experienced under his stewardship.

Sought-after: Forest figure Cooper will be a wanted man

It’s only natural that Cooper will be linked with a move. If anything, it offers a clear sign that Forest are getting things right on the pitch at the moment.

With things moving in a better direction off the pitch, however, there will be hope that Forest can keep the Premier League vultures from the door.

Southampton would be the sort of club that Cooper might suit. They have a nice history with producing young talent and the Forest man’s work as a coach has never been in doubt.

The summer could be an exciting one for Forest when it comes to player recruitment. In terms of keeping hold of Cooper, however, they could face a nervous few months.
