Nottingham Forest will be faced with a conundrum in the summer when Djed Spence goes back to Middlesbrough.
One man could be at the top of Steve Cooper’s list and Connor Roberts would represent a sound piece of business.
The former Swansea right-back was brilliant for Forest gaffer Cooper as he led the Swans to back-to-back play-off campaigns.
Roberts moved to Burnley during the summer for a fee in the region of £2.5 million.
The 26-year-old has recently forced his way into the first-team at the Clarets and he played yesterday during a 3-0 win over Brighton.
He has made six outings for Burnley and has played the full 90 minutes in the last five.
Yesterday, he registered his first assist for the Clarets and he’s fulfilling a requirement for Sean Dyche right now.
Roberts has ousted Matt Lowton from the right-back spot but there remains a niggling doubt over whether he will be Dyche’s long-term right-back.
The Reds will undoubtedly need a replacement for Djed Spence. His form has been incredible during 2021/22 and he will be sold for mega-bucks in the summer.
That rules Forest out and contingency plans will be in the process of being drawn up.
Forest could complete coup with Roberts signing
With Roberts now in the Burnely team, obtaining him in the summer won’t come easily.
Dyche could look at other options though and with six games to his name, he’s perhaps not been overly convinced.
- THEORY: Forest fans think they know why Bournemouth game was off
Roberts plays the right wing-back role with aplomb and Forest boss Cooper knows exactly what he’s all about.
Signing him might prove tricky but if Burnley decide to cut him loose, it’s a deal that Forest have to be all over.
At 26 he has bags of time to continue improving and Forest fans could soon find themselves uttering ‘Djed who?’ if a deal for Roberts can be done.
