Nottingham Forest will have a former Derby County player looking to stick the boot into their play-off push tonight and the Reds must watch Emil Riis closely.

The Danish performer had a largely unhappy time of things at Pride Park. He spent three years at the club but left to sign for Randers without playing a first-team game.

Back in his homeland, he started to showcase his class. During the 2019/20 campaign, he fired 14 goals and claimed six assists for the Danish outfit.

This season has been a decent one for Riis. He has already bagged himself 16 goals and claimed four assists in all competitions.

As a result, Derby must have been wondering why they didn’t give him a shot at first-team stardom. Still, a loss for the Rams is proving a gain for Preston.

Riis has been tasked with leading the line in a new-look system under Ryan Lowe. With that in mind, Forest have to keep an eye on the target man during tonight’s clash.

The game at Deepdale could prove to be a classic. Both teams are in good form and both have eyes on gatecrashing the top-six between now and the end of the season.

Which Forest man will be tasked with stopping Riis?

With Forest likely to go with three at the back, it looks set to be one of Scott McKenna, Steve Cook or Joe Worrall tasked with doing a man-marking mission on Riis.

Worrall, in particular, has traditionally struggled against a more physical presence and perhaps McKenna or Cook will take this task on.

Forest shouldn’t; worry too much about any opposition. Steve cooper boasts lots of attacking quality and the Reds have plenty for Preston to worry about.

With Riis on 16 goals for the season, however, it’s only wise that Forest prepare properly for the threat of the uncompromising Dane this evening.
