Former Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has told the Garibaldi Red Podcast that Scott McKenna is deserving of more praise.
The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw against Preston last night and prior to the game, the former star man discussed the Scotland defender.
McKenna has been ever-present in the Championship during 2021/22 and he’s put the injury problems that plagued last season behind him.
The man signed from Aberdeen for £3 million in the summer of 2020 has been nothing short of a revelation for the Reds.
He has gone about his business in effortless fashion and he’s been brilliant on the left-hand side of a three-man defensive unit.
Johnson has been discussing who he thinks is Forest’s unsung hero and the 25-year-old is right at the top of his list.
He told the Garibaldi Red Podcast: “In teams, there are unsung heroes, there are people that make the team tick without any sort of recognition. I think Scott McKenna is number one in that sense.”
McKenna is a no-nonsense defender who has grown when it comes to playing out from the back under Steve Cooper.
Despite his relatively tender years, McKenna has bags of experience and has so far made 59 appearances for the Reds.
Class: McKenna could be Forest star for years to come
The centre-back cuts an imposing figure at the heart of the Forest defensive unit. He’s uncompromising in stature but remains calm and composed with his defending.
McKenna signed a long-term contract when he arrived at the club. As a result, Forest have the player tied down ahead of his very best years.
The Reds will naturally hope to stave off the lure of any potential Premier League interest, with Joe Worrall also gathering potential suitors.
Johnson will naturally share the sentiments of the supporters and McKenna has quickly become a firm fan favourite.
