Derby County take on Millwall tonight in the Championship and Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper will be one very interested viewer.
The Reds drew 0-0 with Preston North End last night. Despite that, they do remain in the frame to reach the play-offs this season.
Behind the scenes, work will have already started on which players will be targeted by the club at the end of the season.
Two players who were wanted by Forest in January will be in action at Pride Park tonight in an important clash for both teams.
The Reds desperately wanted Jed Wallace last month. Steve Cooper targeted him as one of his main pieces of business for the month.
Ultimately, it proved a frustrating chase with Millwall refusing to budge on their £9 million valuation.
Now, the Lions look likely to lose their main man for free in the summer and naturally, Forest will remain in the mix to sign him.
On the opposite team to Wallace tonight will be Festy Ebosele.
Confusion surrounds his situation. Forest were apparently rejected by the right-back during last month’s transfer window according to some reports.
Later in the month, it was claimed that the defender was in discussions with Udinese; although Wayne Rooney came out and quashed those rumours.
Summer could be massive for Forest and Wallace must be top Cooper target
Millwall winger Wallace was definitely a target for Forest and some quarters suggested a move was close. Now, he has to remain a top target for the club in the close season.
Forest will face competition. Burnley, Leeds and Middlesbrough are all keen on signing the winger on a free transfer.
The talk of Ebosele was perhaps wide of the mark. Although Forest will be in the market for a right-back, it does seem as though they were trying to take advantage of Derby’s situation.
Nonetheless, he does tick a lot of boxes when it comes to the sort of signing that Dane Murphy likes to make.
Cooper targeted both players last month and he will have a real chance to see both in action when Derby and Millwall lock horns tonight.
