Nuno Da Costa has told Malherbe that he’s in discussions over a Nottingham Forest exit, although there could be a problem.
The Cape Verde international is currently on loan with Caen after a pretty miserable spell at the City Ground.
He failed to score from 14 appearances in the Garibaldi and he’s proved a pretty pointless signing made by the Reds.
Da Costa has scored five goals and claimed one assist from 12 appearances in Ligue 2 during 2021/22.
His goalscoring record in France was what tempted Forest to part with almost £2 million to sign him in 2020.
He scored eight goals and claimed five assists during the 2018/19 campaign but he’s failed to make his mark on English football.
Da Costa has been discussing his exit and although talks have taken place over a Forest exit, there could be a snag.
He told Malherbe: “There are negotiations between me and the Caen club.
“The problem is between the two clubs. Caen want to keep me, but it’s going to be difficult because I don’t have too much information from Nottingham.
“I know they’ve changed coaches, it will depend on the preparation and what they want to do next year.”
Forest must cut Da Costa loose and learn valuable lesson
Forest signing Da Costa really didn’t help Sabri Lamouchi when it came to him getting his promotion mission over the line.
He’s never really looked up to scratch from the first time he played and he’s spent more time out on loan than he’s actually played for Forest.
The Reds must do whatever it takes to get him off the books in the summer, even if it means paying up the final year of his contract.
Da Costa was clearly a signing made by the infamous Ioannis Vrentzos and thankfully such deals look to be consigned to the past.
Forest must learn a mistake from this signing and write this chapter off as one that didn’t work out.
