Kendall Burks has signed a contract with Chicago Fire just weeks after his trial with Nottingham Forest drew to a close.

The Reds ran the rule over the American youngster and he played for the Under-23s as they beat Norwich City 3-2.

Burks did seemingly impress. He wouldn’t have needed a work permit either as his mum qualifies for a UK passport.

Ultimately, the chance to stay in the USA proved too hard to resist and Chicago Fire have now got their man.

My Europa League Predictions.

Burks is a central defender and prior to this season, he had been on the books of Washington.

The talented youngster was on the bench during Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Inter Miami in Fire’s season opener.

At 22 he looks set for a bright future and clearly, Ezra Hendrickson will hope that he can make a big impact.

Burks perhaps didn’t offer Forest anything that the under-23 ranks doesn’t already have.

Forest have a plethora of central defenders in their first-team ranks and perhaps the youngster felt the pathway wouldn’t be clear.

Burks will now hope to fulfil his potential in the MLS and showcase to Forest exactly what they’re missing.

Forest must continue casting the net far and wide despite Burks disappointment

The Reds should be applauded for scouting the overseas markets and clearly, Dane Murphy will have his finger on the pulse in the States.

Burks wasn’t the one but there is optimism that Richie Laryea can prove a useful signing after his arrival from Toronto FC.

The central defender did well in the 3-2 defeat to Norwich. The game was played at the City Ground and the American appeared to thrive in the surroundings.

Ultimately, something didn’t quite feel right though and as a result, Forest will hope they don’t live to regret not signing him when they had the chance.
