Ryan Yates has sent a defiant message to Nottingham Forest after his injury-time equaliser against Sheffield United.
The youngster flicked a glancing header into the corner of the net to give the Reds a huge point.
Forest had trailed after Billy Sharp’s goal in the second half and it had looked to give the Blades all three points.
Yates had other ideas though and Forest under Steve Cooper simply don’t know when they’re beaten.
Last week it emerged that the Reds were keen to give Yates a new deal and it sounds as though it’s something he’s keen to do.
He told Nottinghamshire Live: “I love it here. I want to stay here.
“But, I’m just leaving that to the people who sort that out. I’m just focusing on recovering from Friday night.
“It shows the club are believing in me. That probably gives me more confidence than anything.”
Yates burst onto the scene at Forest in 2019. He’s taken some time to really nail down some consistency by Cooper has helped him with that.
The 24-year-old has played 116 times for the Reds, scoring 11 goals and claiming three assists.
Forest should give Yates a new deal
It’s taken some time but slowly but surely, Yates has proved himself to his harshest Forest critics.
He is vitally important to the Reds’ midfield and in the summer he will have just a year remaining on his existing deal.
The Reds player has been monitored by Newcastle this season and with clubs of that ilk eyeing him up, Forest need to act.
At the end of the season, central midfield options could dry up somewhat.
Jack Colback isn’t getting any younger, James Garner will head back to Manchester United and Cafu could be sold.
With that in mind, the Reds must ensure they have Yates to call upon for a few more years.
