Steve Cooper has made a claim about Nottingham Forest to Nottinghamshire Live that supporters should absolutely love.
The Reds take on Huddersfield at the City Ground tonight with the winners taking on Liverpool in the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
Forest have already defeated Arsenal and Leicester in the competition and Trentside looks set to be red hot with atmosphere tonight.
Cooper has enjoyed a brilliant run of form since taking over at Forest in September. His team have lost four matches and they’re on the cusp of a play-off place.
Tonight’s focus switches back towards the cup and with the draw already made, Forest know that Liverpool are waiting.
Cooper has played down the potential clash with the former champions though and insists his team have to focus on tonight.
He’s also offered some comments on the mentality of his players that supporters should welcome.
The head coach told Nottinghamshire Live: “You want a cup run to be helpful, because it adds to confidence and momentum, and it’s a building block.
“A game is a game to me. You’re playing for Nottingham Forest, you want to play well, so it doesn’t matter who you are playing.
“You have to understand the context, but go out there and try and win.”
Cooper comments a breath of fresh air for Forest fans
Several managers in the past have been guilty of underestimating the cup competitions but things feel different under Cooper.
It seems likely that the head coach will continue with a relatively strong team tonight as they look to topple Huddersfield.
It will just be refreshing to hear a manager talk about having some pride in their heart when it comes to wearing the famous jersey.
Forest fans will create a cauldron of noise tonight and the hope will be that Liverpool can be next up later this month.
