Nottingham Forest set up an FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool after beating Huddersfield 2-1 last night. Ryan Yates scored the winner and afterwards, he received praise from Brennan Johnson and Matty Cash on Instagram.
Yates was the most alert when James Garner floated a ball into the box in the 37th minute. His delicate header had goalkeeper Jamal Blackman all ends up and send the City Ground into raptures.
It was exactly what Forest deserved. Despite Tom Lees opening the scoring on 13 minutes, it was Steve Cooper’s team that had the majority of the game.
Huddersfield had not lost since November 27th prior to last night. Frankly, they never really looked like seeing the game through against Forest, despite taking a lead that was probably undeserved.
During 2020/21, the player came under fire after missing several gilt-edged chances with his head. Clearly, Yates has worked with Cooper to work on that aspect of his game.
Forest must now return to league fortunes. They face Reading and QPR at the City Ground prior to facing Liverpool in almost a fortnight’s time.
What have Johnson and Cash said about Forest star Yates?
Johnson was in the team alongside Yates last night and he is seeing first-hand just how good he’s becoming. He summed up his performance with a three-word message after the 24-year-old had taken to Instagram.
Cash left Forest in the summer of 2020. After a solid campaign at right-back under Sabri Lamouchi, he was snapped up by Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £16 million.
He was clearly watching on as Yates scored Forest’s winner against Huddersfield. Cash chose a couple of emojis and a four-word message to praise the academy graduate.
