Nottingham Forest take on Reading at the City Ground on Saturday and a conundrum is staring Steve Cooper firmly in the face.

The Reds will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Championship following last week’s draw with Sheffield United.

Forest will have confidence going into the game. On Monday they knocked Huddersfield out of the FA Cup to set up a quarter-final with Liverpool.

Ahead of tomorrow though, Cooper must decide who to place his faith in between the posts.

Ethan Horvath has deputised well in the absence of Brice Samba following his suspension for a sending-off against Stoke.

He kept clean sheets in games against Preston and Bristol City; with Billy Sharp’s goal last Friday the only thing stopping him from claiming three clean sheets.

Horvath kept his place for Monday’s Fa Cup game. He did get pinned in rather easily for the Terriers’ goal but otherwise, he was impressive again.

Saturday will be the first time that Samba is available for a league game since his moment of madness.

As a result, Cooper has a really big dilemma to get his teeth stuck into and it’ll be a massive decision to make.

Horvath v Samba: Who does Forest boss Cooper trust?

This is a really tricky call. The American hasn’t done a deal wrong over the last fortnight but Cooper has given praise to Samba in the past.

The head coach does seem keen to reward players who are producing the goods though and that could give Horvath the edge.

  • FROZEN: Forest target now out of the picture

Samba has been the first choice goalkeeper for some time now though and he’s barely put a foot wrong under Cooper.

Saturday will likely give a firm indication as to just how annoyed Cooper was with Samba following his dismissal against Stoke.

If Horvath keeps the gloves this weekend, it’s difficult to see him losing his Forest place under Cooper for the remainder of the campaign.
