Nottingham Forest allowed Jordan Wright to leave the City Ground for Lincoln in the January transfer window. Yesterday, he made his first start and earned praise from Jordan Smith and Brennan Johnson on Instagram.

The Imps defeated AFC Wimbledon 2-0 on their travels, with Wright deputising after an injury to Josh Griffiths.

Michael Appleton’s men were down to ten men for the last 24 minutes after Arsenal loanee Brooke Norton-Cuffy was dismissed.

It was a milestone day for Wright. He stood firm for 90 minutes and was rewarded by keeping a first clean sheet in men’s football.

The youngster can perhaps count himself unlucky not to have earned a chance at Forest. He was a highly-rated member of the under-23 squad and is tipped for a bright future.

Now, it’s Lincoln who will hope to nurture the youngster and make him a future star. Wright had been with the Forest academy for some time but was down the pecking order.

The 23-year-old will now hope to keep his place in the team. Appleton is a manager who likes to utilise youth and that should benefit goalkeeper Wright.

The talented individual will be buzzing with a chance to play regular football and he will be keen to grasp the opportunity.

What have Johnson and Smith said about former Forest man Wright?

Interestingly Smith’s contract situation might have tempted Forest into keeping Wright. The stopper will see his deal expire in the summer and the Reds custodian could leave.

He has trained with Wright a lot over the years and he took to Instagram to send him a heartfelt message after his first clean sheet.

Likewise, Johnson will have spent lots of time playing in teams with Wright over the years at youth level.

He too thought it was appropriate to send Wright a congratulatory message following a milestone day for the departed Reds youngster.
