Eddie Hearn has claimed on Twitter that Leigh Wood is set for a world title defence at Nottingham Forest in the future.
The WBA Featherweight World Champions retained his title with a 12th round stoppage of Michael Conlan on Saturday.
Wood was behind on all three scorecards when he produced a stunning final round to stop the gritty Northern Irishman.
Conlan produced a masterclass at the Motorpoint Arena but he was denied by Wood who showcased exactly why he’s the man in possession of the strap.
Now, the City Ground awaits for the Nottingham-born fighter.
Wood has always spoken of his dream being to fight at the City Ground and is a lifelong supporter of the Reds.
Now, the dream could become a reality and his promoter is seemingly keen to grant Wood his wish.
It’s not clear at this stage who would be in the opposite corner for a City Ground date; although Conlan is keen on securing a rematch.
The Belfast-born scrapper was distraught at his last-gasp defeat although he is now on the mend after requiring treatment at ringside.
Talk will now start over who will take on Wood but it seems as though Hearn has confirmed a City Ground occasion.
Forest fans will lap up Hearn comment on Twitter
What an occasion this will be for the city of Nottingham.
Wood is a passionate fan of not only the club but he also speaks well when it comes to discussing the city as a whole.
It means the world of him to see so many Nottingham residents turn out for his fights and a packed-out City Ground remains one box for him to tick.
Hearn has now taken to Twitter and his comments will certainly get the juices flowing among Wood’s ardent supporters.
In boxing terms, the 33-year-old Wood doesn’t have too much longer left in the squared circle.
As a result, he will fancy his City Ground date being an epic occasion!
