The Nottingham Forest academy has produced some quality players over the years, and one is now part of David Beckham’s project in America with Robert Taylor on board.

The likes of Ben Brereton Diaz, Brennan Johnson, Matty Cash, Oliver Burke, Ben Osborn and Joe Worrall all spring to mind in recent years having cut their teeth in the Forest academy.

Patrick Bamford, Karl Darlow, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis McGugan, Wes Morgan, Michael Dawson, Jermaine Jenas, Andy Reid… the list goes on and on.

Forest’s academy success even goes back to players like Viv Anderson, Steve Chettle, Mark Crossley, Steve Stone, Des Walker and Steve Hodge – without forgetting Nigel Clough of course.

Many of those players made first-team impacts at Forest, but others have to go down a different path in search of success.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

That’s certainly the case with Robert Taylor, a player some Forest fans may not really recognise.

Midfielder Taylor joined the Forest ranks back in 2008 but by 2009 he had already moved back to Finland to join JJK.

After returning to England with Lincoln City and Boston Town, Taylor really became a star in Scandinavia.

Stints with RoPS, AIK, Tsomso and Brann followed for Taylor, even becoming a Finland international. Now with 20 caps to his name, Taylor was named in Finland’s Euro 2020 squad.

That’s quite the rise for the former Forest kid, and it’s got even better for the 27-year-old this year.

Inter Miami swooped to sign Taylor in February, meaning he is now playing under Phil Neville and is a key part of David Beckham’s project down in Florida.

Now playing alongside the likes of DeAndre Yedlin, Kieran Gibbs, World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi and big-name striker Gonzalo Higuain, Taylor has come further than many could have predicted.

Hailed as technically ‘phenomenal’ by Neville, Inter Miami are expecting big things from Taylor and believe he already has a ‘sensational’ connection with Higuain.

From Finland to Miami via Nottingham, Taylor has taken huge steps forward since leaving the City Ground and is now charged with the task of helping bring success to David Beckham; quite the rise.
