Diogo Jota delivered the killer blow as Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Sunday evening – but he moved to praise the City Ground crowd.

Forest put up a great fight against Jurgen Klopp’s side, running them very close in an entertaining FA Cup encounter.

In the end, Jota’s finish – proven to be just about onside – sealed the win for Liverpool, booking a semi-final clash with Manchester City.

That goal came just moments after Philip Zinckenagel has fired a golden chance wide of Alisson’s goal, with Forest paying the ultimate price.

Liverpool certainly know they have been in a game though, with Forest producing a superb performance.

Forest fans were in great voice too, and you can certainly make a case they were louder than the much-hailed Liverpool fans.

The atmosphere at the City Ground seemed to strike Jota, who commented on Forest fans after the final whistle.

Speaking to ITV, Jota simply called Forest fans ‘outstanding’ having backed Steve Cooper’s men all the way through Sunday’s cup tie.

Jota also praised the Forest team, claiming they gave Liverpool a ‘proper challenge’ in a ‘really, really tough’ game.

“I think they gave us a proper challenge, the fans were outstanding,” said Jota. “That was a really, really tough game but we are in the semi-final,” he added.

Liverpool are going for the quadruple this season, seeking to add the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup to the Carabao Cup.

For Jota to be speaking so highly of Forest really goes to show what a job Cooper has done at the City Ground, with Forest ultimately putting up a better fight than many Premier League clubs manage.

It wasn’t enough to grab the win in the end, but Jota will seemingly remember his night on the Trent.
