Nottingham Forest star James Garner will be desperate to help the Reds send Liverpool crashing out of the FA Cup this evening.

The midfielder is on loan from Manchester United and that alone should see him get a hostile reception from the City Ground faithful.

Garner talks with a thick scouse accent though and his Birkenhead descent ensured that his family grew up as Liverpool supporters.

With that in mind, it’s perhaps remarkable that he opted to sign for United and he now has a genuine chance of making an impact at Old Trafford.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Firstly, Garner will hope to leave Forest in good shape. The club plays an FA Cup quarter-final this evening and are also in the hunt for a play-off place.

When Garner was at Watford he did a Q&A with the official website and he made some intriguing comments about Liverpool.

He said: “All of my family are Liverpool supporters, which is ironic considering I’m at Manchester United.

“My idol was probably Steven Gerrard. I used to watch all the games with my dad and he was the main player who I used to watch and wanted to be like.

“I used to wear the predators just like him and I still do today.”

Garner will be massive player for Forest against Liverpool

The youngster has Premier League quality and he will want to flex his credentials to play in the top-flight once again today.

He was brilliant in games against Arsenal and Leicester, highlighting his big-game mentality.

Garner will be desperate to get bragging rights over his family and it could be an interesting evening for the youngster.

It’s intriguing that Garner watched Gerrard when he was younger and his playing style isn’t too dissimilar these days.

Forest are lucky to have Garner in their ranks and he will hope to be on the winning side this afternoon.
