Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has told Sportskeeda that Liverpool will thrash Nottingham Forest in today’s FA Cup quarter-final.

The Reds will meet the Merseyside giants for the first time in any game since 1999 later today at the City Ground.

Forest have done superbly well in this year’s FA Cup. So far, Steve Cooper has masterminded wins over Arsenal, Leicester and Huddersfield so far in their cup campaign.

Merson doesn’t anticipate another Premier League feather being stuck in their cap this afternoon. He is predicting a walk in the park for Jurgen Klopp’s men, making a 3-1 scoreline prediction.

The pundit told Sportskeeda: “Forest are doing really well at the moment, but Liverpool will have miles too much for them.

“It’ll be a great atmosphere at Forest, but I think Liverpool will win this one comfortably.”

Merson’s comments are perhaps somewhat disrespectful given how good Forest are playing at the moment.

Admittedly, Liverpool are also playing some nice stuff too. As a result, it promises to be an entertaining affair on Trentside this afternoon.

Forest must use Merson comments as motivation

Cooper would be wise to pin Merson’s comments onto the dressing room wall ahead of this afternoon’s clash.

Forest don’t really have a right to warrant beating Liverpool but ultimately Cooper will instil some belief in the Reds players.

Under the Welshman, Forest have been a much more organised team. With the same group of players as Chris Hughton pretty much he’s transferred the team’s fortunes.

Forest are perhaps unfortunate in the sense that their strongest team won’t be on the pitch today.

Steve Cook and Scott McKenna will be sorely missed but it’s now a case of opportunity knocks for someone else.

Forest will hope to ram Merson’s words back down his throat later today.
