Ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson after Jurgen Klopp’s team edged into the FA Cup semi-final.
Diogo Jota’s goal which came under a small cloud of VAR controversy saw the Reds set up a Wembley date with Manchester City.
Fowler was covering the game for ITV Sport and he was discussing Johnson who had another pretty decent game in the red of Forest.
The 20-year-old was the subject of vast Premier League interest during the January transfer window. Brentford came closest to signing him and saw four bids knocked back.
Fowler was very impressed with Johnson during yesterday’s quarter-final and used his platform as a pundit to rave about him.
The former striker told ITV Sport: “He’s impressed me. He’s still a young kid and there’s been a few Premier League clubs after him. What I like about him, as much as he’s got pace-wise, he has a directness about him and he’s comfortable on the ball and shows composure.
“He gets into the box and has weighed in with a lot of goals, not only scoring them but assisting them too and he ticks a lot of boxes.”
Johnson learning his trade at Forest and the club has to keep him
The youngster has been in remarkable form during the 2021/22 campaign. He’s grown as a player and naturally, clubs are looking at him.
Fowler knows a talented attacker when he sees one and the future could be very bright for Johnson.
The youngster shouldn’t be in a rush to leave the club, however. Right now he’s playing each week and that is the best thing for his development.
Johnson has just a year to run on his deal in the summer. As a result, Forest have got to make an extension their priority for the summer.
