Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp has made a surprise move to National League promotion hopefuls Wrexham.

The custodian had been turning out for non-league outfit Clitheroe but he’s now found his way to the rich National League outfit.

The Dragons have big plans to go up this season. Bankrolled by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Mark McElhenney, Wrexham are poised for promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s men do have work to do though. They currently sit 11 points behind league-leaders Stockport, although they do have a game in hand.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Camp arrives at the club as a vastly experienced goalkeeper and one who should have a point to prove.

During his time at Forest, he helped the club to two successive top-six finishes under Billy Davies.

He left the Reds for Norwich City after making 193 appearances for the City Ground-based outfit.

Camp was a popular member of the dressing room on Trentside and he’s previously spoken fondly of his time at the football club.

He also has experience of playing for Derby, QPR, Rotherham, Sunderland, Bournemouth and Birmingham City.

Camp was last involved in professional football in 2021, making 11 appearances for Swindon before getting released.

Forest favourite Camp could be perfect for Wrexham

It’s hard to imagine Camp’s career going on much longer at the age of 37. In the short term, however, he could be perfect for Parkinson.

Camp is an experienced performer who has played nine games at international level for Northern Ireland.

He is a sound shot-stopper, commands his box well and has always possessed good distribution.

Wrexham might have kissed their title hopes goodbye in recent weeks. Now, it’s all about ensuring a second or third-place finish to guarantee themselves a home semi-final in the play-offs.

If Camp showcases the form he brought to the Forest table, Wrexham fans are in for a real treat.
