West Ham United are planning to scout Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson before the season ends, according to Green Street Hammers.

The 20-year-old is currently preparing for Wales’ World Cup qualifying clash against Austria and he’s been in fine form.

Johnson has scored 12 goals during the 2021/22 campaign and registered six assists, featuring in every Championship game this season.

The academy graduate has a whole host of suitors. Brentford thought they’d signed him in January after tabling a bid of £20 million.

Forest stood firm though, believing their play-off aspirations would be far more achievable with Johnson staying in their ranks.

Since the turn of the year, the forward has really kicked on. He’s built up a stunning relationship with Djed Spence on the right-hand side of Forest’s attack.

Johnson has also been watched by other Premier League clubs. Newcastle, Leeds, Leicester and Crystal Palace have all been credited with interest.

Steve Cooper has clearly got a tune out of Johnson. Former boss Chris Hughton wasn’t entirely convinced he was ready and stifled him somewhat.

Forest are facing a perilous situation though. Johnson will have just a single year remaining on his contract at the end of the current campaign.

West Ham provide attractive proposition to Forest star Johnson

Many saw Brentford as a club that Johnson should avoid. Some cynics believe that they won’t last long in the Premier League and the player could find himself back in the Championship.

West Ham is a different proposition though. They’re not only an established top-flight club but they’re also looking good for another season in Europe.

David Moyes has shopped well in the Championship before. Jarrod Bowen is now one of the country’s top talents, whilst Said Benrahma also proved a success from the second tier.

The report claims they’re preparing an £18 million bid. West Ham better think again regarding that, with Forest already turning down more than that from Brentford.

Forest will do well to keep Johnson. If he lines up for Forest on the first day of the 2022/23 campaign, the club will have done very well indeed.
