Richie Laryea is yet to make an impact on Nottingham Forest since arriving in January but he’s proving his worth to Canada.

The nation could have secured their World Cup qualification on Thursday with a win over Costa Rica.

An early red card, however, cost them the chance to win and they must now wait until later tonight to secure their place in Qatar.

Laryea will likely start at left wing-back again when Canada take on Jamaica on home soil.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

With Max Lowe injured at the moment, Laryea produced a masterclass of wing-back play last week and he must have impressed Steve Cooper.

It does seem somewhat bizarre that he’s not got a sniff of a chance yet. He arrived for an undisclosed fee from Toronto FC during January.

Laryea has been on the bench a few times but ultimately he’s failed to get on the pitch in the Garibaldi just yet.

At 27-years-old, Laryea is hardly signed for the future. With that in mind, it’s perhaps more of a mystery why he’s not played yet.

With Forest now in short supply of wing-back options, the Reds are surely edging closer to starting him.

What was said about Laryea after Forest man stars?

Reputable Canada reporter posted on Twitter after the game. He was clearly impressed with the performer and highlighted where he was outstanding.

Laryea must be scratching his head. He’s not had a look in at Forest and he has to be wondering why.

Clearly, he’s fit and ready so why he’s not been handed a chance by Cooper remains to be seen.

The versatile full-back will be hoping to force his way back into the fold after the international break and he could seriously help Forest.

Forest have an asset in their ranks and Cooper must start using him.
