England under-21s defeated Andorra on Friday and after the game, Nottingham Forest starlet Alex Mighten sent a congratulatory message to Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.
The Reds performer made his debut for the under-21s. He had previously been a teammate of Mighten’s through the other England youth teams.
Elliott has returned with a vengeance from a serious injury sustained back in September. He’s now back in Jurgen Klopp’s thoughts and played against Forest last week.
For Mighten, he’s endured a somewhat frustrating campaign. He’s spent some time out injured too and has registered one goal contribution in 23 outings.
The 19-year-old has bags of time on his side. He is striving for consistency and he will hope to get regular game time before the season is over.
For Elliott, he will be fighting for a place in Klopp’s team ahead of a busy end of the campaign where Liverpool will fight for three trophies.
The Merseyside giants have already won the Carabao Cup this season and they will be craving more.
Mighten will hope to help Forest join Liverpool in the Premier League by coming through the play-offs this season.
Forest have 10 massive games remaining and they’re currently sitting three points off the Championship’s top six.
What has Forest talent Mighten said to Liverpool player Elliott?
The two players have played with each other in the past. Coming through the England ranks together saw them link up nicely on the pitch.
Both players had a nice embrace on the City Ground turf after Liverpool beat Forest 1-0 last week.
Mighten would dearly love to kick on at the same rate that Elliott has. His time at Forest has been a little inconsistent since breaking into the first team.
The challenge facing the teenager now is to force his way into a Forest team that is playing some really good football.
Mighten is an exciting player and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with his development in the coming years.
