Nottingham Forest defender Jayden Richardson helped Notts County continue their fine run of form yesterday. After the game, Brennan Johnson heaped praise on the youngster on Instagram.

Richardson was a surprise signing by the Magpies in December. The deal was initially for a month but that was extended in the January transfer window until the end of the season.

Forest allowed the 21-year-old to leave the City Ground on a temporary basis. He will actually be out of contract in the summer and it’s not sure what the future holds.

He’s certainly trying his best to impress at Meadow Lane. He has scored once in 14 matches and in each game, he’s been busy showcasing his ability to maraude forward at free will.

Richardson has actually played for the Reds during 2021/22. He made four appearances earlier in the campaign; starting twice in the Carabao Cup and making two outings from the bench in the Championship.

The youngster has spent time on loan with Exeter and Forest Green previously. He helped both clubs reach the play-offs and he will hope to do the same with Notts County.

The Magpies are in the hunt for a place in the play-offs. They will hope to avoid a third successive campaign in non-league obscurity after last season’s play-off final defeat.

What has Johnson said about Forest gem Richardson?

The 20-year-old has been in fine form for Forest this season. He has scored 12 goals and claimed six assists with the Reds in the mix to secure themselves a play-off place.

Johnson has played with Richardson coming through the Forest ranks. The talented forward has clearly overtaken the defender but there is still hope that he can star at the City Ground.

Richardson could be the versatile option that Steve Cooper craves in his squad. The player is capable of playing as a right-back or a left-back and his skill set makes him ideal for Forest’s style of play.

Johnson used just a single word, to sum up, his latest performance. County will hope to take this showing into the remainder of the campaign and claim a place back in the EFL.
