Nottingham Forest are guaranteed one player at the World Cup in 2022 after Richie Laryea helped Canada qualify for the winter tournament. Afterwards, he received congratulatory messages from Xande Silva and Philip Zinckernagel.
The speed demon has become something of a forgotten man at Forest. He arrived in January but has failed to make a single appearance for the team yet.
Injury has struck Max Lowe, however. As a result, he could be in line for some game time in the coming weeks and his confidence will be sky-high.
Forest are on course for a play-off place. Steve Cooper’s men sit three points off the top six and have two games in hand on some of their top-six rivals.
Laryea was brilliant at left-back as Canada lost 1-0 to Costa Rica last week. On Sunday he played at right-back as his country beat Jamaica 3-0 to ensure qualification.
The 27-year-old has struggled to get a game since arriving. Now, he will hope to use his latest performance for Canada as a catalyst to get in the Forest team.
Laryea can play in either full-back position and looks tailor-made to play in one of Cooper’s wing-back slots out wide.
What have Zinckernagel and Silva said to Forest man Laryea?
Silva has earned some chances from the bench in recent weeks. He has sent a comical message to Laryea following Canada securing their place.
He has asked his teammate for two tickets for every match at the tournament and that seems like an unlikely request.
Zinckernagel has also taken to Instagram to praise Laryea for his epic achievement in helping Canada end 36 years without going to a World Cup.
He has chosen two words to congratulate Laryea and also sent a couple of emojis to Laryea.
The hard work starts now for the Forest man. He will hope to force his way into the Reds team in the coming months and ensure a place in Canada’s squad at the end of the year.
