Ian Wright has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson after Wales drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic last night.

Wright was analysing the night’s action on the ITV highlights show and he has been seriously impressed with the Forest man.

Johnson has been the subject of vast interest from the Premier League. He is valued in excess of £20 million and has Leeds, Newcastle and Brentford all vying for his signature.

Last night he got the chance to start for Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium. He was brilliant throughout and claimed an assist for Ruben Colwill’s goal.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Wright was impressed with Johnson and spoke about his quality during his stint as a pundit on last night’s ITV show.

He said: “When you’re seeing players like that coming through, it has got to be quite exciting. Brennan Johnson, every time you see him he looks better. He’s got 12 goals, six assists this season. He’s improving.”

Forest have a bit of a situation with Johnson regarding his contract. The 20-year-old will have just a year to run on his current deal when the season comes to a close.

With that in mind, the club have to act. Forest are giving Johnson the chance to play regular football at the moment and at this stage of his career that looks best for his development.

Johnson stock continues to rise and that bodes well for Forest

Forest will remain a selling club as long as they aren’t at the top table with the big boys of the Premier League. As a result, the club are somewhat vulnerable regarding Johnson’s contract.

Given how well he’s doing, however, the £20 million valuation still looks plausible. Forest shouldn’t be bowing down to clubs in the summer and his valuation from January should remain intact.

Wright has been a keen admirer of Forest since they knocked his beloved Arsenal out of the FA Cup. He’s right about Johnson and the Reds have a seriously exciting player on their hands.
