Nottingham Forest defender Djed Spence made his first appearance for the England under-21 outfit on Tuesday night. After the game, he received praise on Instagram from Max Lowe and Lyle Taylor.
It’s already been a season to remember for Spence. He joined the Reds on loan in August and has helped them into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and has the team on the cusp of the play-offs.
At 21, he’s now got a plethora of Premier League clubs vying for his signature. Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United are keen, with Bayern Munich also monitoring his progress.
Spence has made 34 appearances for the Reds this season. He has made the right wing-back spot his own during 2021/22, scoring three goals and claiming five assists.
Forest would dearly love to keep him. With each performance and every accolade claimed, however, the chances of extending his loan are decreasing.
Middlesbrough look resigned to losing their hot prospect. They have seen Isaiah Jones burst onto the scene this season and that tempted them into loaning Spence out in the first place.
They are hoping to recoup between £12m-£15m for his services with several top clubs in the mix to sign him. Now he has an England under-21 appearance to his name, they will fancy getting their valuation comfortably.
What have Lowe and Taylor said to Forest star Spence?
Lowe is currently out injured. He suffered a flare-up of the groin injury that has troubled him this season earlier this month. He is expected to be missing for a few more weeks yet and that’s not good news for Forest.
He sent a quick message to Spence and like Taylor, he chose two words to laud the defender for his efforts on international duty.
Talisman Taylor has been a revelation for Birmingham. He joined up with Lee Bowyer’s team in January and he’s found the way to goal once again.
He also took to Instagram to heap praise on Spence and clearly, Taylor was a popular figure inside the Forest dressing room.
